Blog Topics: Tonight’s Top 10 List [258]

Legend has it the Top 10 List was created by David Letterman, but your guess is as good as mine. My bet is cavemen were writing top 10 lists in the dirt to get a chuckle out of their buddies when they walked by.

Blog Topics: If I were a Restaurant Critic [240]

As I’ve been thinking through this topic, my mouth is watering. Perhaps I should start a niche site and become a food reviewer.

By now you probably know how fanatical I am about media. Markets understand they’ll sell more as they involve more of your senses. For that same reason I love using good pictures, audio, and video on my websites. Backcountry Treks is almost all exclusively video in fact.

One thing you can’t get through the internet is smell. (If you’re inventing it, let me know. I have an idea for a project.) So the challenge is conveying everything you want within the limitations of sound, pictures, and video.

That sizzling fajita should be sizzling in other words. Get a great recorder and make it happen.

No matter your business, your readers/viewers should feel like they’re there. That will come through in your writing and how you portray things in video. Describe the smells and the taste of your food. Is it hot or cold? How hot or cold is it? Be very specific.

Using more audio and video takes a lot of hard drive space. Later this week I’ll talk about how to handle that.

If you have a topic, tip, or technique you’d like to submit, email it to feedback@needatopic.com. I’ll link to your website when I give you credit.
